Recilic is a Mac application that backs up your files across devices you and people you trust own, as an end-to-end encrypted mesh. It is designed so that your data — and the keys to it — never leave your control.
Recilic collects no data. Period.
Recilic reads files only from the folders you explicitly select. Before anything leaves your Mac, it is encrypted locally with keys only you hold, then split into shards. Storage nodes — including your own devices and those of people you invite — receive only encrypted shards. They cannot read your file contents, names, or folder structure. Your files are never routed through, cached on, or visible to any server operated by us.
Encryption keys are generated on your Mac and protected by the macOS Keychain. Your recovery key is shown to you once, for you to store safely; we never see it and cannot reset it. Without your keys, no storage node — and no one else — can decrypt your data.
The only network activity Recilic performs is encrypted communication between the nodes in your own mesh — transferring shards, verifying that nodes still hold them, and repairing lost ones. If you add a cloud location (such as an S3 bucket) as a node, it receives the same encrypted shards and handles them under its own provider's privacy policy.
Recilic stores its settings (your mesh membership, backup catalog, and verification state) locally on your Mac, inside the app's sandbox container. The catalog replicated to other nodes is encrypted like everything else. Deleting the app removes local settings.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at recilic.app/privacy with a new "last updated" date.
